Past Grants: FY 04 Emergency Funding Grant
ASF's objective as a foundation is to support the schools as they strive to reach higher levels of educational success; funding educational initiatives and proven programs that are beyond what the tax-funded school budget could support. Today, we are compelled by circumstances, however, to dedicate our first major fundraising campaign to mitigating the negative impact on our schools due to budget cuts and the June 14 override defeat. This fundraiser will focus on maintaining the gains that our schools have worked so hard to achieve over the past several years.
We will dedicate the proceeds of this special fundraising campaign to a set of priorities delineated by school leadership, including representatives from both the Administration ad School Committee. These priorities represent what they believe to be the most important funding shortfalls at this time in terms of educational impact on our students. They are:
- Reading Teachers ($250,000)
- K-12 Classroom teachers to address staff student ratios and program breadth ($145,000)
- Elementary Science Coordinator to continue implementation of a "unified" science program/5th grade camp, environment studies, etc. ($45,000)
- School Social Workers ($175,000)
- Part time grant writer and Part time gifted and talented/differentiated learning training and support ($50,000)
Funding these priorities allows us to minimize the effect on students of painful cuts already begun. Money received through July 31, 2003 will be applied to priority items in the order listed above.
In the last week we have raised several thousand dollars and we ask that you add to that amount with a donation of your own. We have received several sized donations. Some people have donated $282, the amount the average family would have paid in increased property taxes. Any amount you are willing to contribute is welcome.
Tax-deductible donations payable to Arlington Schools Foundation can be sent to Jane Culbert, Treasurer, PO Box 80, Arlington 02476.
